But this track-by-track approach to the LP centers on the music — the sounds, creation and concept behind one of the most successful, popular and celebrated albums in rock history. After former frontman Syd Barrett left the psychedelic rockers rudderless, they gradually found a collective focus by , with bassist Roger Waters handling the concepts and lyrics , guitarist David Gilmour and Rick Wright contributing musical ideas and vocals and drummer Nick Mason maintaining a steady beat while messing with brain-tickling sound effects. Waters had the idea of recording interviews with people who worked with the band or at Abbey Road Studios, and seeing if the answers might dovetail with some of the weighty lyrical themes of Dark Side. The phrase stuck. Nobody else had anything to do with it at all. It was a suitable beginning for an album about the universal elements and impediments of existence. That was a leap forward. Things would mean what they meant.

And, perhaps most crucially, the record had genuine meaning. Toc H. Along with adhering to a cohesive concept, Waters wanted Dark Side to feature lyrics that were more lucid and direct than anything the band had written before. The album was very nearly called Eclipse. From the beginning, the band had intended to call their new album Dark Side of the Moon — a reference to lunacy, as opposed to outer space — but when British heavy blues rockers Medicine Head released an album of the same name in , it caused the Floyd to rechristen their project as Eclipse. Floyd fans were first treated to Dark Side of the Moon in concert more than a year before the album was actually released. I always had an obsession with finding sounds that would turn something into 3D. I had the Green Onions album when I was a teenager. And in my previous band, we were going for two or three years, and we went through Beatles and Beach Boys, on to all the Stax and soul stuff. And to me, it worked.
Primarily developed during live performances, the band premiered an early version of the record several months before recording began. New material was recorded in two sessions in and at Abbey Road Studios in London. The record builds on ideas explored in Pink Floyd's earlier recordings and performances, while omitting the extended instrumentals that characterised their earlier work. A concept album , its themes explore conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness , the latter partly inspired by the deteriorating health of founding member Syd Barrett , who departed the group in The group employed multitrack recording , tape loops , and analogue synthesisers. Snippets from interviews with the band's road crew , as well as philosophical quotations, were also used. The sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum , was designed by Storm Thorgerson , following keyboardist Richard Wright 's request for a "simple and bold" design, representing the band's lighting and the record's themes. The album was promoted with two singles: " Money " and " Us and Them ". The Dark Side of the Moon is among the most critically acclaimed records in history, often featuring on professional listings of the greatest albums.
It's the sort of super dismissive "all women are the same" attitude that I learned in church and left to get away from. When we obsess over it we start acting like a customer in a clothing store wondering what he or she will look like if they wear that particular wardrobe. And once you are done with those, ask about social issues and where she stands. They nicely include all the pictures we grew up with on how the book was translated and admit that isn't how it happened. There will always be difference between spouses. My relationship is the same way. I dated a doctor who was into me and saw me frequently. There are all kinds of Mormons, and we as exmormons should know better than to stereotype our former selves. A lot of Mormons escape that pitfall and can put people first. But I do believe in modern prophets and that God gives no commandment that is not for our own happiness.
