Mirren began her acting career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in and is one of the few performers who have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting. Vasily also worked as a cab driver and then played the viola with the London Philharmonic Orchestra before the Second World War. He later worked as a driving-test examiner, before becoming a civil servant with the Ministry of Transport. Mirren considers her upbringing to have been "very anti-monarchist".
